Car Hire Lanzarote
As with all holiday places, you can end up getting more (or less) than you bargained for when hiring a car. Lanzarote is no different.
Although I must add very quickly, there are some really reputable car hire companies here and they make sure that you know what to expect from hiring from them.
Now personally I have hire from 3 different ones Cabrera Medina, Autoreisen and Pluscars. All give a fantastic service, but I do have a personal favourite and it is Autoreisen. Why? Because you can easily book online, there are no cancellation fees. They do not monitor small scratches and bumps so you can park without fear of anyone bumping you. It does happen.
One time we parked a car on a very wide road and on our return we found our driver side door damaged. Someone must have turned in the road without taking into account our car was parked there! Autoreisen were great about it.
With them you get told what level of fuel is in the tank and you return it the same or more. They only charge if it is below that level.
There are no extra costs for child seats and boosters and the cars are ok. Most are pretty basic but who needs more than that when you're probably only going to have a couple of days out and about!
Finally, I have found their prices to be competitive and I like the pick up and return to airport (they are only based at the airport).
All of that said, the other companies that you find on this directory are good too!
For any car hire company you use, it is always a good idea to observe the following tips...
Although you won't do a great deal of miles driving around Lanzarote, it is always good to be away of how you are charged for mileage and fuel.
Make sure you have a child's seat or booster if you need one, the right insurance (NOTE: keep all vehicle documentation with you in the car at all times!)
Car Pick Up
Car hire varies on the island, some companies don't mind bumps, other's do, so find out their policy and if you need to, take photos of any bumps and marks before you drive the car away.
In most cases, Hire companies hate the smell of smoke in their cars, so no smoking really does mean no smoking unless you want to risk a big cleaning bill!
Usually only the main driver and one other (if you have produced their passport and driving license)
Travel off Island
Sometimes people want to see the neighbouring islands. Most car hire companies don't allow you to take off the island so do check before you go!
